Well my next venture into my parent's bank account has proved very handy, but it's only because I convinced them to spend £250 to gain free postage!
I wanted to add a Caestus Assault Ram to my collection, and that was the fist thing that I placed in the basket, expect countless posts about this bastard kit (from what I've found on YouTube) later on. I also wanted to add some Cataphratii Terminators to my army, but when my parents went to place the order they were out of stock... enter thoughtful mode. When the Deimos Pattern Predator Infernus was first released my first response was that I wanted at least on of these beauties in my army at one stage, so with the Cataphractii's out of stock, I decided to throw in a unit of 3 of these, just because they fit the flaming fluff of the Salamanders. With £11 pounds to spend to gain free shipping, I was stuck with what to do, all my infantry weapon sets are complete, all my characters are built at the moment, so there was nothing that I desperately needed. Fluff wise my Contemptor Dreadnought Talon aren't the best, so I thought it would be appropriate to have the option to have two multi-melta's within the talon.
Order arrived yesterday, and I cannot help but want to open to box and start to dry fit all the kits together. I'm going to magnetize the multi-melta's for the dreadnoughts, and see if I can magnetize the predator turrets for added variety, but I'm presuming it won't be possible though... as for the ram, this will not be my priority over the next couple of months, at least I'm not planning for it to be, as the predator's will be as they will give me a gaming style that I've never played before - Tank Squadron.
Pictures of the building process' will appear after Christmas, and I'll try and put up some images of everything I've got so far before Christmas, but there are no promises!
Daniel: You're an evil git and I hate you. Luckily I have planned for this eventuality....
I shall also try to do a whole army post before Christmas, just the assault squad to make now.

Battle Report, Salamanders vs Night Lords, 1000 points, part 2
The first turn started with me advancing one of my tactical squads to the right to take control of a second primary objective. The Command squad advanced up the middle, whilst the Seeker squad encroached on the Contemptor. My other tactical squad sat on the primary objective in my deployment zone. In the Salamanders shooting round, I was able to kill of 3 of the Night Lord tactical marines that were advancing towards the objective on my right. The Seeker squad sergeant shot at the Contemptor, blowing it up before we remembered that he had a 5+ invulnerable save, and of course this saved him...
Daniel followed suit with his turn, but was less successful with his shooting, killing a couple my Seeker squad with his Kheres patters assault cannon. His tactical squad then failed to cause any wounds on my Command squad, mostly thanks to my 2+ armour save keeping them alive, and I'm glad they did! Daniel thought he could rectify his poor shooting my charging, but his tactical squad and Contemptor both fell short in their charges.
With Daniel's failed charge with his Contemptor, I manoeuvred as many of my Seekers to its rear as possible in hope of glancing it to death... everything else stood still, and the command squad unleashed bolt rounds into the Night Lords tactical squad who were two inches away, failing to kill any. The seekers faired a tad better, causing a glancing hit with a bolter shot. On the charge, my Command squad entered combat with the Night Lords tactical squad, and the Seekers charged the Contemptor. With the Command squad all being Characters, I issued a challenge with a normal member of the squad trying to flush out the Night Lord Champion, but instead found a sergeant waiting. The Champion then surfaced issuing his own challenge, which was happily greeted by my Praetor. My veteran killed of the sergeant and my Praetor sliced the Champion to death with his Prator blade (Murderous Strike causing Instant Death on a 6). The rest of the squad then killed another member of the tactical squad before running them down as they tried to escape. Over with the Contemptor, the Night Lords were fairing a lot better, killing three and suffering no wounds, locking the two units in combat.
The Night Lords second tactical squad then advanced to take the place of the first squad, and the Destroyer squad positioned itself for a charge in the near future if needed too. The tactical squad was able to kill of one of the command squad before charging in, while the Contemptor killed another two Seekers, but lost a hull point in the process. The tactical squad was again outmatched by the command squad with veteran accepting the sergeants challenge, but failed to kill him. The rest of the squad faired little better apart from the Praetor who killed three, but the squad did take a casualty at the same time. The Night Lords used hit and run to retreat after the combat, and the Salamanders followed behind them, but headed towards to Destroyer squad on their left on the way. The Destroyer's charged to command squad followed in by the returning tactical squad. The Contemptor killed the rest of the Seeker squad and advanced on the Salamanders tactical squad sat in their deployment zone still. In the Command squad combat the destroyer sergeant tuned down a challenge and lost two of his squad because of it, whilst the tactical squad's sergeant survived another challenge but also lost two members of his squad. The command squad again took no loses thanks to a 2+ save. The following turn, the Seeker squad redeployed because of the special building rules we rolled, and appeared just behind the Contemptor and shot it to death the same turn. The Command squad charged the Destroyer squad, with the Praetor slicing the sergeant to death in a challenge and the rest of the squad being chopped down by the remainder of the squad, but lost another of their number.
The Night Lords remaining tactical marines made a tactical retreat towards the objective that was in their deployment zone, and the command squad followed. Shooting at each other caused no casualties until the penultimate turn when the last regular Night Lord was laid low by a bolter, Leaving the sergeant to run to the top of the building to avoid being charged. Having failed to be shot down, the sergeant then returned to the ground level to claim the objective just before the game ended, leaving the final score as; Salamanders 8 (2 Primary objective, First Blood and Slay the Warlord) Night Lords - 3 (1 Primary Objective)
Both Harry and Daniel said after the game that a Command squad would work their way into their lists as soon as it was possible as they near enough won the game for the Salamanders single handedly.

Battle Report, Salamanders vs Night Lords, 1000 points, part 1
Last night Daniel and I played our first legion on legion game! Having limited space we opted for 1000 points, and both of us went for infantry based forces. I used the following list;
Praetor with a master crafted paragon blade and an iron halo
5 man command squad
10 man tactical squad with sergeant in artificer armour
10 man tactical squad with sergeant in artificer armour
10 man seeker squad with 5 combi-flamers, sergeant with a power fist, plasma pistol and artificer armour
Daniel: For anyone who is interested, my list was;
Legion champion with master-crafted power sword, artificer armour and refractor field
Contemptor with assault cannon and extra armour
5 man Destroyer squad with plasma pistol and power fist
10 man tactical squad with power weapon, artificer armour on sergeant, legion vexillia and nuncio-vox
10 man tactical squad with lightning claw, artificer armour on sergeant, legion vexillia and nuncio-vox
Now back to Paul
We used some of the battlefield special rules so ended up with a building in Daniels deployment zone which forced him to re-role successful armour saves, I had one where loyalist marines had to pass a leadership test to move into, and a building near the centre which allowed the first destroyed loyalist infantry unit could be redeployed within six inches of its edge. We also had 5 primary objectives to claim, but both of us only had two scoring units, so the game balanced on who could wipe out a scoring unit first.
Daniel took a contemptor, which in the end could only be taken out by my seeker squad sergeant! Knowing this I deployed my seekers as close to the edge of my deployment zone as possible, in hope of Daniel hunting them with the contemptor to keep them away from his Champion who was marked for death. I deployed my tactical squads on the objective in my deployment zone, and the second moving towards the closet one after that. My command squad and praetor where heading up the middle of the board.
Daniel had a similar idea, sticking his tactical squads on the closet objective and moving towards his second closest, this time with the champion accompanying them. His destroyer squad was held at the back of the board waiting to pounce on a target when they were in range. His contemptor was sent after my seeker squad, which I thought would be the turning point of the game, how wrong I was though!
Part two will talk you through the game itself

Reinforcements Inbound... And my foray in An Unexpected Journey
So yer, I haven't been slacking on building as you can see below but a slight increase in work hours has reduced hobby time and motivation in the past week or so. But it should all be good now, at least until the Christmas rush hits, crap. But anyway, the VIIIth have been reinforced a bit since the last update.
And my other current project is the White Council from the new Hobbit range.
I feel I should also give you a brief piece of background for the army and an explanation of the army's look. This is or will be the XIVth Company of the Night Lords, during the compliance action against the Cherautii Republic, or more specifically the battle for Osmium as briefly depicted in The Dark King audio drama. The XIVth Company were made up heavily of Terran marines including much of the command structure, a fact that would cause the company's allegiance at the time of the Heresy to be highly suspect, even among the rest of the Legion. I'm yet to decide exactly which way they will end up going, it's certainly true that evil guys have more fun so yes.... we'll see.
Brother Algron, late of the Atramentar and his 'pet'. Some poor Cherautii is currently bleeding out all over him. He would assign himself to XIVth Company during the battle for Osmium where he would devastate all who made the mistake of approaching him in combat.
Not an easy pose to build, a lot of green stuff on him or more specifically the dying Cherautii. Though I have another idea for the Republic's forces look so he may end up being Imperial Army.
Legion crest made from a Dark Elf shield bit, a good find. Lucky I have a whole army of them to plunder if needed.
Various chains etc, makes him look more brutal and less plain which realistically he would have been otherwise. And some stretched skin on his shoulder, should look good when painted.
"Hello, what do we have here?"
3rd Claw, XIVth Company fighting their way through the streets towards their objective
9th Claw, posed breaching Cherautii defenses outside the Senate House in the dying hours of the battle
I quite like the sergeant's pose, he looks like he's scanning for threats as they push forward
Brother Zal Mazlon, Champion of the VIIIth Legion. He would be at the forefront of the Imperial assault on the Senate House, slaying 6 Cherautii commanders over the course of the action. Severally wounded at its climax, rebuilt with bionics he would fight on in the legion's service right up to the Heresy.
Support-Commander Helate. Like Mazlon, Helate would link up with XIVth Company during it's advance on the Senate House, where he would coordinate the different Imperial formations involved and provide fire support missions against Cherautii targets.
A as of yet un-named Legion Libarian. All I have so far is he is XIVth Company's attached Libarian and that, like many of the commanders, he's probably Terran.
My newest HQ choice, a Legion Vigilator, also un-named but he'll get one soon. I really like the pose, has a clear sniper shifting position look to it.
10th Claw, XIVth Company burning Cherautii forces out of cover. Only finished them tonight (technically yesterday) hence why they haven't been undercoated yet. They're also the first squad I've done which is led by a Nostraman. Terran officers get horsehair crests to mark them out, Nostramans will get little bat wings when I work out how to do them.
Next up is the missile launcher armed Heavy Support Squad, and then the 10 Assault marines. Hopefully I'll have the Heavys built by Wednesday and after that, any assaults are a bonus right now. I'm on the home stretch with that mass order, and will soon be ready for the next one, maybe a Fellblade....
And my other current project is the White Council from the new Hobbit range.
The wizards, not really my main focus
Which would be these two. Since my small LOTR force is elves, and these sculpts being amazing, I'll be working on these two as rapidly as I can. It'll be a bluey-grey scheme for them, same as the rest of the army.
Of course, the VIIIth take priority over these four, especially if the three of us actually manage to get a game in on Saturday I think I'm going to need all the marines I can get, especially if it ends up being a Legion on Legion battle as I suspect it will be. I may need some serious luck to beat the Salamanders, we'll see...
As always, C+C's welcome and I hope to update again soon.

More building!
My Sergeant upgrade packs arrived yesterday! I now have enough bits to build another 10 man tactical squad, a devastator squad, and all but the combi-flames for a seeker squad! Hopefully my missing dreadnaught parts will arrive this week so I can field a full contenptor dreadnaught talon in my next game, just because it will look awesome.

I've built stuff
Yes, Sunday was a good day for the VIIIth. I managed to build all 5 Destroyers and the 5 remaining tactical marines, which I think is a new record for me; 10 marines in about 9 hours. I'm really slow when it's put like that. But anyway, the bases have arrived so I can get on with building the rest of the FW order whenever I have the time.
Destroyers being awesome
The other tacticals
And with their friends
Better get on with painting them, whenever the weather here allows the use of the spraygun.
C+C's welcome as always

We are coming....
So this arrived today, so the army is almost all here now. Only issue being Secret Weapon haven't dispatched my bases yet so I'm limited to the 15 ones I have spare from my last order. So what to build first? It'll definitely be the other 5 tactical marines from the first squad but that still leaves 10 bases left. So I think it'll probably be either (1)the destroyers and another 5 man squad or (2)the other tactical squad. Either way, it works out as 10 bases used. Decisions, decisions...
This Emperor's Children Centurion is saddened at not having any men to command, that and not being a Night Lord.
So much resin.......
Expect updates over the next few days depending on how much I get done before the weekend and hopefully our next game.

So soon to be awaiting work will be;
- 35 marines in various armour marks, mainly Mk4
- 10 assault marines
- and weapons for this lot
Once this is combined with the stuff I already have, I'll have almost everything I need for the 2000 point list on here as well as the 2500 list I'm going to work to next, see below. There's also a Legion Contemptor, Librarian and Destroyer squad that currently appear nowhere but will be available for deployment as needed. Actually, there's a bit more probably going to be added over the next month or so, read Typhon and maybe Fellblade.
Now to get the Secret Weapon bases ordered for all this lot.

Retarded moulds!
I'm seriously annoyed, I tried to build my heavy weapon squad, but the new weapons don't fit with the old bodies. In going to need to order some of he new mark 2 armour this week. Also, one of my kheres assault cannons was missing a piece and one of the contenptors was missing the part to join the legs to the torsos. Luckily c the guy who my uncle bought them from still has the receipt and has sent it to me so that I can phone Forge World and try and replace the missing pieces.
In other news, my apothecaries arrived, but are in fact fake recasts. They're good recasts to be fair to them, and once painted no one will know the difference. I was also able to pick up 3 rhinos, with Forge World doors fairly cheaply on eBay, so they're waiting to be cleaned up and have a dozen blade attached to them.
Over all my army is coming on slowly., and even more so since I've got a 3000 word essay due in 2 weeks an I've take to completing assassins creeds 1,2, brotherhood and revelations before I start 3 which arrived today. So far I've completed 1 and 2 in the last week, and am roughly 10% through brotherhood from one play. Hopefully I can start painting some point next week once my essay is finished...

It's Speeder Time! Sorta
And as for this guy, I've had him a while now and I think he'll be joining the speeder and anything else I find that needs paint stripped in the bath. One legion librarian hopefully ready to go soon. I think the only bit that is 'safe' to strip is the marine, the rest will basically disintegrate unless I've misunderstood what nail remover does to plastic.
C+C welcome
Why do I bother with that, no one's out there. Only joking.

Damn you Forge World!! And an update
I can now categorically state that I hate Forge World. This is because the sole thing preventing me from buying most of my army was the lack of the updated armour sets which if you check FW, you will find have now been put up for order. I'm now stuck between ordering most of the army now, and being happy but having no money; or not ordering the kits, having to resist temptation for two weeks until I get paid (which will never work) but having money for AC3 and various family occasions.
It's basically a forgone conclusion that my resistance will cave in over the next few days, if not sooner so which that in mind, by the beginning of November or whenever FW ships the stuff i'll have everything in my 2000 list minus the chaplain, assault marines, rhino and predator. So that'll be a nice second order at some point. Hopefully my 2nd ed land speeders will arrive in the next few days so i can work on them, depending on what they require.
Anyway, the army so far, might as well put up a few images of the models for your view.

Zso Sahaal. If you can't tell, he's crouching down like he's hunting something. An old piece of mine, he's probably about 5 or so years old minimum, all he needs now is his skull faced bolter, whenever i work out how to best do it. He spent most of our game yesterday in reserve with the assault squad before slicing apart a Tomb Stalker with some help in two rounds and then going after Trazyn and his lychguard. Had the game continued for another turn, who knows how Trazyn would have looked? It didn't look good for him...
Legion Rapier. Yes, it is partially blu-tacked together but only the crew to the base etc. Once I order the next load of bases off of Secret Weapon, it will get a proper base in the same style as the rest of the army. And yes, it is on a 60mm base, all of them will be. I'm pretty pleased with this 55 point beauty after our game yesterday, it killed a Monolith in 2 turns by hull pointing it to death, not quite as good as i'd have hoped but for a first game, it's impressive none the less.
Atramentar squad. Pretty self-explanatory really loadout wise. Two games played with them, they butchered the orks in the first one, and died like bitches to the Necrons yesterday, but a C'tan will do that to you. One of two squads i'll have eventually, the other will be identical apart from a heavy flamer instead of the autocannon.
Atramentar sergeant and the army test model, kinda. If you're bothered, it's a Kantor Blue base, Nuln Oil wash and then Kantor Blue again. No doubt there'll be more done to the blue and the lightning bolts whenever I continue painting him. Also, he's a Terran hence the more 'warm' skin tone, the Nostramon legion members will be a very pale bunch, just as they should be.
And finally, the first half of a legion tactical squad. They've got all the upgrades, sergeant at the front (helm crest marking him as a Terran) with a legion vexillia to his left and a nuncio-vox at the back. I plan to follow the same as i did with the 40k marines, being that every man will have pouches, grenades, combat blades, pistols, etc or a mixture of them. It just make them more realistic in my book.
In case any of you wonder "Where are all the skulls?", all I will say is they're coming... The point I have set the army at, most of the legion hasn't begun the decent into madness, only those closest to Curze and his 'sanity'.
C+C always welcome.
Seriously, someone comment on something, just so we know people are actually reading any of this.

I've started to paint!
On Tuesday I started painting my Heresy Salamanders! Was very exciting and nerve racking at the same time. I started by looking in hobby stores for a spray paint to use as a base colour and found a perfect one in Homebase. With this sprayed on all the models I started to drybrush them with Death World Forest. This gave me the perfect platform to apply a wash of Ogryn Flesh, which has left the green of the Salamanders with a perfect muddy effect without taking anything away from the green. As of now that's all I've done, but I've started to pick out the shoulder guards with black, which will eventually have GW transfers applied t give the army a unified look.

VIIIth Legion List: Mark 1
I said i would give you a proper list after work, well here it is.
HQ
Zso Sahaal-207
Legion Chaplain-105
Elites
Dreadnought-175
5 Cataphract Terminators-215
1 Rapier Destroyer-55
Troops
10 Tactical Marines-200
10 Tactical Marines-205
10 Assault Marines-280
5 Support Marines-102
5 Support Marines-162
Rhino-55
Fast Attack
2 land speeders-100
Heavy Support
Predator-135
So, 1996 points of the VIIIth Legion, this is pretty much what i'll be making over the next few months.
Though probably with more rapiers and fewer land speeders, and a lot more Elites and Heavy Support.
And HQs and Troops and Fast Attack.
And Lords of War. Then allies.....
Welcome to my world ;-) My armies never end, only take breaks before coming back with a vengeance. So depending on what gets released, anything could appear on here.
From Revolutionary War America to the dark days of the 41st Millennium, via the Old World, it all can make an appearance.

Hello, I'm Konrad Curze and Welcome to Jackass
Hopefully, this has worked and you are all reading the beginning of my log.
So yes... er er, damn I got nothing.
Right I'm Daniel and I'm a Warhammeroholic. I've spent the last 12 years buying, painting and playing with my various armies. I wonder what my life would have been like without it... But that's not a discussion for here.
So Paul's already been talking about his Salamanders, who despite all looking near enough identical, poses not counting, are still rather impressive in their mass numbers but that's what happens when you have access to a parent's credit card, git. So while Paul could pretty much build his army at Games Day, mine is still non-existant really. Or they've been here all along, watching, waiting... Though now I actually have a paid job, I can afford to properly start the army in the next few weeks. This will be fun :-)
Anyway, I am doing the VIIIth Legion, also known as the Night Lords. That's me on the right up top, hi. Paul, you know already I imagine while Harry is the jetbike (or Rapetrains as i'm sure he will insist on calling them in his own log) riding Thousand Son at the back. The image is also Harry's work, and if interested to see more, search Vangar Shriek into Deviant Art. There Harry, I've promoted you in my own log, you better be grateful.
As it currently stands, I have a Legion Praetor in the form of Zso Sahaal (look him up), 5 tacticals, 5 cataphratctii terminators, a rapier and a few assorted additional bits like vehicle crews. So not much really.
Though hopefully, i'll have a lot more this time next month. I think the army will be something like this;
Zso Sahaal
Dreadnought
5 Cataphracts
1 Rapier Destroyer
10 Tacticals
10 Tacticals
10 Assaults
5 Support Marines
5 Support Marines
And no doubt, a few tanks. This plus a few additional characters and units is what i would 'ideally' like to have by the end of the year, not sure of the points of all of it, i'll work it out later today after work.
So yes, C+C welcome not that there's really anything to say at the moment.

Starting Point
My most recent venture into my painting hobby has been fairly minimal to be quite frank. I\'ve been to busy building the first 30 Salamanders Space Marines from the Horus Heresy era. The army is fairly small as it stands, but it will still be a lengthy process to actually get the painting process correct on test models before starting on the beautiful (and very expensive) Forge World Mark II Crusade Armour models. I have an idea as of how I want to paint them, but haven\\\'t been able to find the time as I\\\'ve just spent my first residential week away for my Diploma, and on arriving home last night I\\\'ve indulged myself in building a Legion Praetor with a Power Fist and Plasma Pistol and Legion Heavy Support Squad with Missile Launchers over the course of today.
At the moment my army consists of two Legion Tactical Squads of 10, and Legion Support Squad with Flamers and Combi-Flamer and a second Legion Support Squad armed with four meltaguns and and a Close Combat weapon and Bolt Pistol. I also have a Land Raider Achilles to add into the army if the points allow me to. With the addition of the Legion Praetor and Heavy Support Squad, the army ranges around the 1200 points mark, which for a start isn\\\'t too shabby as everyone I play with have little to none of a Heresy Army at the moment.
Before I went away for my residential week I was able to find on eBay, from Russia, a set of three Forge World Apothecaries for no more than £26! Not to mention this is cheaper than buying two from Forge World directly, and this group are all wearing Mark II Armour, rather than the Mark II and IV that I\\\'d receive from Forge World. I couldn\\\'t miss the opportunity to add a unit of Apothecaries to my army, just because it brings more of a Heresy feel to the army.
Lastly but not least, I received an email from my Uncle on Friday, saying that he had a friend at work who had three Contemptor Pattern Dreadnaughts that they were looking to sell of fairly quickly. To my luck they were all unassembled and he\\\'d bought the combination of weapons that I would in most likelihood have bought myself if I\\\'d ever bought them at the full price. I sent an email back straight away asking my uncle how much is friend wanted for the models. I had an email back during the afternoon, saying that he\\\'d be happy to have £70 for them, and I said that was more than a fair price, as it is half of the current value of all the components. My uncle then very kindly offered to buy them for my as a present to say congratulations for getting onto my Diploma course after a tough year working out what my next move was. The even better news was that my uncle was coming up to London today for a business trip so he could drop them around earlier this evening. As I write this, all the different parts are soaking in soapy water so I can try and build them before I next meet with a group of friends for a game or two next week.
There will be a selection of photos uploaded in the next couple of days of the models before priming and some mid construction. I will also throw in some of test models if I find time to start the painting between work and essay writing.
